For the newly diagnosed woman the book is a portable support group, where she will have her feelings validated in total privacy, without the pressure to open up in a real-life support group setting. An Unexpected Journey is also a place where family and friends can learn about the right and wrong things to do and say, where healthy people can discover the importance of making changes in their lives, and where the medical community can eavesdrop and become more sensitized to the needs of those with cancer. "An Unexpected Journey grew out of my own need to read about women who have survived breast cancer," Aniko says. "But most importantly, I wanted to put a human face on this terrible disease." Aniko is a former corporate executive who lives and writes in Montreal. She is available to speak about the book, her experience writing the book, and about her own unexpected journey.
